Africa Night Nijmegen has left the house

Well, that was it folks! Africa Night Nijmegen has left the house. She left Nijmegen last Saturday with her head held high. To Nijmegen, Africa Night came, saw but did not conquer. It was a big battle to win over the love of Nijmegen. Nobody could accuse us of not trying hard enough. We invested 20 months of our time, energy and money in Nijmegen. But sometimes you fall in love with someone who is either unable or unwilling to return the love. Love is a 2-way traffic. So you have to move on in life. That said, Nijmegen has been good to us. It could not give that which we wanted, but it treated us with respect and with understanding.

As we held the final regular ANN last Saturday, we look back at a period that proved that you donĀ“t have to be cramped like sardines in a small place to have fun. Even the days when Africa Night Nijmegen attracted just 45 people, everyone kept dancing. Nijmegen was unique in that. People came in and even if they were the first people, just go to the dance floor. They do not hang on the side lines waiting for the hall to be full first. Not even at Africa Night Tilburg can boast of people consistently coming and at the sound of music go straight to the dance floor.

We got a lot of warm feelings last Saturday. People understood our motivation for stopping the regular ANN. That is so Nijmegen. People even came up with some usable suggestions for the future to ensure ANN might come back in one form or another. We will consider all of your suggestions. Meanwhile you all still have a choice to come and enjoy Africa Night in Tilburg and (coming soon in November) in Rotterdam & possibly Utrecht!

Thank you Nijmegen. We make no promises yet. But we might be back. Rotterdam is an example. We left that city 3 years ago with a promise to be back. Now we are heading back. Even though we are making no promises this time, we are also not closing any doors. Nijmegen is too nice a city to burn the bridges.
