Africa Night stood still to celebrate the life, the music and the influence of Lucky Dube. Around midnight, the guests during this Africa Night rose as one man to give Lucky Dube a deafening round of applause. It was one emotional moment for many and even I could hardly hold back the tears for a singing hero, too early gone.
It was really a poignant moment. I was proud that we could honour him this way. All through the night, the music was punctuated with that of Lucky Dube. People really warmed up to this. Africa Night saluted one of Africa’s best sons.
The evening went on really great. The atmosphere was good. I think our zero-tolerance stance to some guests who seem to sometimes want to make trouble at the show, is paying dividend. It is really satisfying to see that people of all colour and race are feeling more and more comfortable and relaxed. There was just a real camaraderie.
