Music while you sit

First of all let us start by thanking everyone who made this edition of Africa Night Tilburg a good one. We hope you had as much fun as we had too!

That it is difficult being a DJ was underlined again during the October 2016 edition of Africa Night Tilburg. Coming to Africa Night expecting to hear specific music is everyone’s right. This we respect and honour even though we don’t always get it right. The DJs are after all humans. To satisfy 150+ diverse music tastes, wishes and expectations within the 5 hours that Africa Night is on, is always a big ask.

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of welcoming many new guests who wanted to share in the ambiance of Africa Night. As organisers, we saw two of those people sitting most of the time and decided to have a chat with them. It turned out they had a reason to keep sitting while almost everybody was dancing. They had been sitting because the DJ was not playing the music genre they came for! When asked which it was, they replied, “Salsa!”. Salsa is after all one of the music genres we claim to play. Notwithstanding that the DJ already played some Salsa before the ladies came in, we went to the DJ to persuade him to try and play another round of Salsa ASAP.

What happened when Salsa came? The ladies remained firmly seated! We went to ask what the matter was. Maybe the Salsa was not the one they wanted? “No, no, we love it”, they replied. “But nobody is coming to ask us to dance!” Well! It just shows that people have more needs than we can always provide. The good thing is that these ladies sat throughout the Salsa and throughout the night. They must have enjoyed themselves in spite of everything. The ambiance was good and people generally seemed to have had a good night.

On a personal note, 4 friends drove all the way from England just to join the Africa Night fun. And even though they were naturally tired from the long drive, they enjoyed the atmosphere of the night. It made the whole roundtrip (they drove back the same night!) worthwhile.

It might have been pretty obvious to many that the regular Africa Night DJ has not been behind the music table this October 2016. Not in Rotterdam and not in Tilburg. He has been on a well-deserved vacation. Starting from Africa Night Rotterdam in November 2016, he will be back. Africa Night Productions wish to thank DJ Sam for helping us out in October. Asante Sana rafiki!

Africa Night Tilburg

Watch out for the bumper month of November! Africa Night Productions have as usual 2 Africa Nights (5 November 2016 in Rotterdam and 19 November 2016 in Tilburg). In addition, there is a new Afro-Reggae Dance party (12 November 2016 in Tilburg) just for the lovers of African reggae! We hope to see you in November!
