We thought of holding an Azonto themed Africa Night Tilburg in August on a hunch. We just thought Azonto party? Why not?! That was why we did not announce it during the July edition of ANT. We hadn’t thought of it then! One good thing about not being able to see the future is the fact a lot of things would not get done if we knew tomorrow. If we had known 3 weeks ago that Saturday 18th August 2012 was going to be as hot as it turned out to be, we would definitely not have chosen that day to have a party where guests were asked to come with plastic masks and gloves! This is especially so, since we are also aware that even in the coldest winter days, Partycentrum Oase is always warm. But the summer of 2012 had been very mild and as of the time we took the decision to Azonto, the temperature was still barely hitting 20 degrees. What a difference 3 weeks can make.
So it was that we were very much in doubt whether to call the whole theme thing off because of the weather when we realised it was going to be the hottest day of the year yet. Even on the Africa Night Tilburg day, we were sure that people will do the reasonable thing and not even show up. If no one showed up we would have really have not blamed them. It was almost a health risk to show up. But as usual the Africa Night Tilburg guests are never “reasonable”. They just are supernatural! 200+ of them just came anyway! They have survived all kinds of weather types and a few degrees above 30 was apparently a minor detail for them. You wouldn’t think though that there were 200+ people in attendance. This is because there were as much people standing outside the party hall getting some well needed coolness as were inside sweating it out! Of course our supernatural guests are very super reasonable. Don’t mind our joke above!
How did the Azonto itself go? Well let’s just say we continue to hit the lucky button. It was better than we thought it might be. This was made possible by some professional dancers who are on tour in Holland currently. It was their day off and they just dropped in on our show. Not only did they drop in, they stole the show! Wow. Thanks ladies and gentlemen if you are reading this. The various African CDs we had as gifts went to this group. We also like to say thanks to all who came with or without their Azonto masks and provided the colours that made our night very bright. We are forever grateful to all our guests.
Join us in Nijmegen on 1st of September for part 2 of the Azonto party during Africa Night Nijmegen (click here for the address). No need to bring your masks. Just as long as you bring your dancing shoes, we will provide the music as always.
