The security guards who ensure that every Africa Night goes off smoothly never get a mention in our blogs. This is because they do their work in such a way that their presence is almost not noticed by our guests once the night gets going. The guys we employ to ensure your safety during our shows are people who fit into one of the philosophies of Africa Night. That is to ensure that the major focus on each night is you, our respected clients. We are sure you have been to clubs or parties where the bouncer feels more important than the guests. We don’t need those at Africa Night. We like you to feel that the only contact you have with our bouncers is while you are coming in and they have to do a pat down on men’s bodies and do whatever it is they do with the ladies. After that they are everywhere but most of you don’t even notice. That is the way we want it. That is the way it should be. Africa Night is not about them. Neither it is about us. It is all about you!
Why are we writing this? This is because the security guy at the first edition of Africa Night Rotterdam in November 2013 gave you, our guests the biggest compliment you could imagine from a bouncer! During this, the first Africa Night Rotterdam in 3 years, the bouncer sent to us from the security agency was new to Africa Night. When he arrived he was tense and all fired up to work. We gave him a briefing about how we work at Africa Night because he was working with us for the first time. He took it all in but he really looked extremely worked up. He did not even seem to relax when we tried to crack a joke. We remember thinking, “We hope he does not transfer his tension to the guests”. There was hardly a relaxed nerve on his body during the first part of the night.
To our surprise, he seemed to relax as the night went on. By the end of the night he was so relaxed he became really charming. It was while we were doing the usual after-the-show evaluation that he dropped the surprising bombshell. He had worked at virtually every known clubs in Rotterdam and he is used to guests behaving very badly. He has had to face lots of aggression and unnecessary fights and violence in the Rotterdam night life. He was therefore braced for the worst when he came to Africa Night Rotterdam!
“What a sweet bunch of party and fun loving people; the Africa Night Rotterdam people!” He said with a beaming smile. He was amazed at the friendliness and the politeness of the guests. No one made any trouble. They just came had fun and left. This was totally unexpected he said! Hahaha! Duh! He is just meeting our guests for the first time. What a surprise it was for him. We smiled and told him the Africa Night crowd is the best anybody could wish for. Then he said now he understood why his colleagues are always eager to work at the Africa Night shows. We are proud of everyone who has ever been to our show and has had loads of fun.
The atmosphere was good during this back-in-town edition of Africa Night Rotterdam. The people who came seemed very happy about the location, the atmosphere and the friendliness of the volunteers of Grounds café. We are grateful to you our guests and the people of Grounds too! If you missed this edition, you are invited to come to the next edition of Africa Night Rotterdam on 11 January 2014. (Yes, Africa Night Rotterdam is a once in 2 month’s event).
In the meantime, the next stop is Africa Night Tilburg!
