We want to get some irritations out of the way in January so that we have the rest of the years to serve you like we have always been doing all these nice years. So bear with us. The first parts of this long blog are an attempt to get some things off our mind. If you don’t want to read a long blog, just skip this part and go to the last 2 paragraphs. They contain the information that might not spoil your day.
The one thing question we have asked ourselves as organisers of Africa Night every month is: do we still have what it takes to stay relevant to our desire to entertain our guests? Without beating our chests too hard, the major thing that we believe separates Africa Night from all the other Africa-themed shows in The Netherlands is that we truly do it from our heart. For 29 days a month we try to figure out how to make that next show a better one that the last one. It always looks like it is easy work especially on D-day (Dance day). Which is why a couple of wannabes come to Africa Night, see how “easy” it is to earn easy money and proceed without depth to organise their own shows. Easy, right? They always find out sooner or later that if your heart is not in it, you are doing it for all the wrong reasons. It is as simple as ABC. Before the D-Day there are the A-Days, B-Days and C-Days. Those are the hard working days that make D-Day look easy. There is no quick money and there are no short cuts to success. Whatever you want to do, it all starts with passion. Then you need desire, focus and hard work. If you are organising a party just for your own ego, you will be the only man standing. Period. Some have learnt that the hard way.
And where do all those African deejays come from in Satan’s name? Geez! At every one of our shows there is always a “great” possibly the “best” African deejay that comes to tell our deejay how he should play his music. If you are the best you will know it is not the smartest thing to do to interfere in the work of another professional. In any case, if you are that good, what the heaven are you doing at our place? Shouldn’t you be having a gig somewhere? Shouldn’t we have heard your name somewhere? Get the nothing out of here. No. Not get the fuck out of here. You are going home dry unless of course you do what you are actually the “best” in; fucking yourself.
We put great thought into selecting our deejays, the ladies at the door who collect the entrance fees, the security guards and every member of Africa Night team. None of us is the best there alone. Actually we are all average people individually. But as a team, we are rise above ourselves. So if you are a “best” or “great” deejay and you have a free weekend, please come and enjoy yourself. Just do so without being too obvious. Advice is always welcome. But gosh, don’t go mount the pulpit you might trip and fall on your nose. It is called Africa Night not a church dammit. Stop condescending. The only thing left under your nose is the gutter. (NB. A note of caution; there was a Kenyan deejay there last Saturday whom we’ve heard off and who as far as we could tell, came to have fun and we hope he did. So please he does not fall into the category described above)
So having got those out of our system we are glad 2013 is beginning with a bang. Africa Night Nijmegen already surpassed its January marker set in 2012. So we were curious how it was going to be in Tilburg. The numbers are in! Even though less people came than in December 2012, it was still the busiest January ever! So can we ask you a rhetoric question knowing there is no means for you to answer here? How do you do it? How do you keep coming and convincing new, uninitiated friends to come to Africa Night? There were at least 15 of our guests yesterday who months/years ago came either alone or with another friend. Yesterday these same people came with at least 5 other new friends each! This happens every month. Are we complaining? Heavens no! We are just in awe and appreciation of you.
And apparently more and more cities and countries are even noticing because we are getting offers to bring Africa Night to them. As of Saturday 23rd of February 2013, we are going to have our first international try out in Germany! It is going to be in Krefeld just keep an eye on www.africanight.nl for all the details. We hope you will join us. Before then, we welcome you to Africa Night Nijmegen on Saturday 2nd of February 2013 and to Africa Night Tilburg on Saturday 16th of February 2013.
