This was one of those Africa Night shows when it was difficult for me to really have fun. Nothing spectacular happened. It was just that when one of the crew members of Africa Night can not be with us on a particular show, the rest of the crew always has to be extra alert on those days. On this day Monique, one of the cornerstones of our show, could not come because her babysitter was feeling under the weather. And even though the night eventually passed without any incident, I was too stressed out to enjoy what was otherwise a great night.
There were a couple of highlights for us still to remember the night by. Like the lady who always comes with a large entourage and who is always teasing and flirting (playfully though!) with us. On this night we actually had a ‘serious’ conversation during which she revealed that she is the last of 10 siblings and that 8 of those siblings (the other 2 are not resident in The Netherlands) are almost always at our shows! Now, We know all of these ladies and gentlemen. They are from the Dutch Antilles.
They’ve been coming to Africa Night for at least 8 years now. We’ve always thought some of them were family, but that all the older ones were actually brothers and sisters? Whoa! We say the older ones because they are also always there with their children who are also ladies and gentlemen in their own rights! In short, we may have been entertaining at least 15 members of the same family at Africa Night without knowing it. Whoa! Great. We salute you all. You bring colour and grace and love to our show!
The second and even more pleasant highlight for us was the fact that the cousin of the organiser (from Africa) was also at this particular edition of the Africa Night. He had been planning to come to Africa Night for at least a couple of years. We don’t think he was disappointed at what he saw. He seemed to enjoy himself a lot. He is back in Africa now, but he is already planning his next visit to coincide with an Africa Night next year.
Well. Africa Night is like one big family anyway!
