When Africa Night Rotterdam was in mentioned in the Metro during the first edition in November we were happy. In January they did it again! But when Africa Night Rotterdam got a mention in FunX radio on Saturday we felt like we won some serious money in the lottery. A friend of Africa Night in Limburg first alerted us to this. Later in the evening some other people were calling us asking how we got Africa Night Rotterdam on the radio! Not just any local radio station. Yes, the FunX radio! Africa Night had been on national television before. We have been mentioned in a couple of bestselling books. But on national radio? It seemed like a big deal. It made us happy!
What also made us happy is the fact that this edition of Africa Night Rotterdam was the perfect way to start the Africa Night train rolling in 2014. It started in Rotterdam as usual at 11 pm and by 11:30 pm there were enough people there to make the hall already half full! You would think they came early purely because of the limited edition of the Africa Night Freemix CD. More than half of the guests did not even know about the CD beforehand and were pleasantly surprised to get one. We are always happy to bring a smile to people’s faces. You have been making us smile for a long time so we are just giving something back.
We are not going to bore you with long stories. To answer one or two common questions yesterday; Africa Night Rotterdam is held every 2 months because that is what could be fixed in the full programming schedule of Podium Grounds, where Africa Night Rotterdam is held. There are 2 more editions before the summer break. Depending on how our discussions go, we might return there again after the summer break. If we come back for season 2 at this location, we cannot at this point guarantee it will be monthly. This is also as a result of some technicalities involving night permits etc.
It is a beautiful location with equally nice personnel. Many of you were highly impressed by the quality and the ambiance. We are glad you like it. We hope to see you again on Saturday 8 March 2014. If you cannot wait till then to enjoy African music, there is always the mother of all Africa Nights; Africa Night Tilburg! It is also held at a beautiful location.
Help us spread the word. Let’s build Africa Night Rotterdam together. We are already on the good road. We want to travel it with you for a while. Africa Night is where young and old, black and white, religious and non-religious, men and women etc. meet to fire up the dance floor. Africa Night and our guests do not recognise borders and boundaries. You remember those ladies who towards the end of the January edition did a spontaneously choreographed dance routine on the dance floor? They are from Kenya, the music they were dancing to (and you so much enjoyed) is from South Africa! We bet you even heard the DJ play some Dutch language songs. That is the spirit of Africa Night!
Last but not the least, our apologies to those who missed out on the CDs again! You did not come early enough. What a pity! We hope you had fun on the dance floor though!
