It is not often that we write a blog on the day of an Africa Night, before the event has even started. However, it is not every day that Africa Night turns 19! We just felt like letting you know a couple of things. First we hope you have seen the short video about how/where to park your cars tonight because of the funfair (kermis) taking place on the parking lot of the venue. If not please watch the video so as not to get confused!

As always everyone that comes on time tonight will get a free CD full of some of the latest and best of African artists of this moment. 1 or 2 of the songs are great songs that are not from the past year but songs we missed in our previous CD. This is a mix we are really proud of. The songs might not be the best or the most diverse ever but the mixing is not bad at all (if we might say so ourselves!). The songs were, as usual, selected for you by both your trusted DJ Aziz & his assistant, Femoree. The final mixing was done, as always, by Femoree. The CD cover was designed this time by Tumbleweed and printed by Kemi. As you can see, this CD is a result of a great team work!
So let’s breakdown what you might expect on this 19th anniversary Africa Night Freemix. There are 31 songs in total playing for 78.04 minutes. For the first time since we could remember, no songs from P-Square made the final cut. The same is also true of the Mbalax genre; none made the final mix. (Our apologies to the lovers of Mbalax!). 2 new artists who had never featured in any of our previous Freemixes came in with a bang this time. Both, Darassa from Tanzania and Sidiki Diabaté from Mali, have 3 songs each in this collection. Nigeria provides the most songs/artists followed by Tanzania and Ghana. We introduce you to the new genre called Afro Trap. It is a new type of music that was created by the Guinean/Senegalese 22 year old called MHD. You should check him up on Youtube. In just 2 years, he has created a sound that has taken the world by storm.

Our other favourite Jose Chameleone barely made it with just one song called Sweet Banana. 3 artists from the African Diaspora also made the final cut as a result of their collaborations with other African artists. These are Machel Montano (Trinidad and Tobago), Busy Signal (Jamaica) and Neyo (USA). We have Angola, Togo, Ivory Coast and Kenya in the house!
Our policy has always been; you have to come and collect your free CD personally. We do not do reservations/or postage. And because we can never know the number of people coming, we make the CDs based on our own guestimates. So it is on first come first served basis. That is fair. If the CDs are finished, they are finished. We can’t make an extra for you next month even if we wanted. This is because we always destroy the master tape to avoid this kind of never-ending work! So please relax and chill. If you miss out please ask a friend to make a copy for you. Or better still come to Africa Night Rotterdam on Saturday 27-05-2017. (www.facebook.com/events/418054825216564) There you can collect the final sets of the Freemix (if you come on time!)
We are expecting a full house today so please come early. Don’t forget we have some delicious food (fried rice and more) waiting for you. We are going to bring our professional camera tonight. Using a background of African Dashiki, we hope we can make great pictures of you beautiful people tonight. And who know there might even be one or 2 surprises waiting for you! Come early so that we can party hard tonight! See you later alligators!
