There is no way to sugar-coat the way Africa Night Tilburg July 2014 turned out. In terms of the turnout, it was pretty bad! We can take solace in the good music and the dancing theatrics and mimics of our lovely Japanese/African guests. These guys always light up the place whenever they come. Whether they are there in full or whether it is just a couple of them, you knew they were going to set the dance floor on fire. During this edition, they thankfully continuously provided the highlights for a rather dull Africa Night Tilburg edition.
This could not gloss over the fact that it was not the best ever Africa Night. So what were the obvious excuses for the low turnout? Do you have a minute? This edition could not have fallen on a more unfortunate date/day.
- It is summer vacation.
- There is Ramadan.
- The annual Tilburg fanfare (kermis) was on.
- It was on the same day as the summer carnival in Rotterdam.
- There were many other free festivals going on that Saturday
- At 34° it was one of the hottest days of the year. Not ideal for indoor dancing. Great weather for barbecue till deep into the night.
We could go on and on. It would not change the face of this July 2014 edition of Africa Night in Tilburg. In August Africa Night will bounce back. All of the factors above will be gone and Africa Night can begin its traditional busy build from August to December. That is why we are not gloomy. In fact we are relieved to get especially the Ramadan sting behind us.
To those of you who made it in July a big thank you to you all. You make us happy indeed. See you again next month!
